“La Gran Señora” (The Grand Woman)

Jenni Rivera is without a doubt the female leader of the Regional Mexican genre. The winner of various GOLD and PLATINUM records certified by the RIAA, released her most recent production entitled “La Gran Señora”, now available in stores and all digital formats, this album was released on December 1st, 2009.

“Ya Lo Se”, written by Pepe Garza and recorded prior by various artists, now in the voice of Jenni and accompanied by the Mariachi gives the song a different sound, purely ranchero and in her own unique style.

Once again Jenni Rivera, decides to produce her own album so that she can also be known as the multi talented hardworking enterprising woman that she is. "This is my first completely all mariachi album.  Although I have always recorded in norteño and banda, my first musical love was the mariachi. It was the first thing that my ears listened to. Although I was born and grew up in the United States... my parents injected me with my roots and my culture.... much of this is the music of mariachi," commented 'La Diva'.

This album was recorded between September and October 2009, and has the collaboration of The Mariachi Sol de Mexico of Jose Hernandez and Danny Ramos’s musical arrangements.

“La Gran Señora”, has 12 spectacular songs, one of the tracks gives the album its name, and it was written by Jenni. In this production, Jenni Rivera, shares songs of great significance to her, and some unedited tracks chosen by the interpreter with messages of love and enmity. "I selected each track keeping in mind not only of singing them but also on interpreting them. I recorded each song with much passion and deeply feeling each word so that my public can appreciate them”.

The tracks in this magnificent production are: “Yo soy una mujer”, “Por que no le calas”, “Before the next teardrop falls”(original), “Déjame volver contigo”, “La cara bonita”, “Ya lo sé”, “Ni princesa ni esclava”, “No llega el olvido”, “Amaneciste conmigo”, “La escalera”, “La gran señora”, “Amarga navidad” and “Before the next teardrop falls”(only in Spanish translated by Jenni).

Some of the tracks that stand out are: "Amarga Navidad" by Jose Alfredo Jimenez a song  that could not be absent according Jenni, since she was keen to record it for a long time and since this album released in December it was the best time to do it in this very special album, “Before the next teardrop falls" popularized by the Mexican American Freddy Fender, is a song where Jenni Rivera demonstrates her multifaceted abilities, since she recorded it in its original version 'spanglish '(Spanish and English) and as a bonus track only in Spanish, showing the two traditions of which she is very proud.

Throughout her career, 'The Diva of Banda' has enjoyed a legion of loyal fans made up of a multi-generational audience that admires her talent and musical integrity.

2009 was a great year for Jenni on July 31st and August 1st she sold out both dates at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California being the first Latin artist to achieve this. Her concerts in Mexico and the US are amongst the most successful and because of this she is the most sought after artist in her genre.

With a track record of more than a dozen productions, are very easily said but for Jenni this has meant hard loving work, effort, and above all multiple sacrifices. As it’s accustomed for her everything she ever does is based on giving out the best of herself and her music.

“Mi Vida Loca” (2007) ...“mirrors my life…my life has been very crazy and different. I think I’ve lived happily. Difficult, but happily.” The idea of creating an autobiographical album, came about from the fact that her audience and media have always asked her ‘Do you identify with your songs’? Do you actually interpret you’re record? “Most of the time, its no, they don’t apply directly to my life. Nonetheless, on this album all the songs in one way or another apply either to my experiences or my emotions,” Jenni Rivera states.

Her Story:
She began to record and play with music in 1993, but it wasn't until 1999 that she began to show her talent as a singer-songwriter, a talent inherited from the musical legacy of the renowned Rivera family, of which she is extremely proud. Since she was a child, her environment would mark her musical destiny. Her interest in music grew when she would watch her father and brothers spend hours in recording studios or singing traditional Regional Mexican style songs, particularly Corridos and Norteñas.

Born in Long Beach, California of Mexican immigrant parents, at an early age Jenni Rivera already felt the calling of Regional Mexican music in her heart.  Jenni Rivera is far from her early years as a Business Administration student who went on to work as a real estate agent, as well as helped her father run his record company.

In 1999, Jenni Rivera would release her debut album scoring her first chart- busting-Corrido hit of her authorship, “Las Malandrinas,” off her debut album on Fonovisa Records titled “Que Me Entierren Con La Banda.” On her sophomore album “Dejate Amar,” Jenni repeated her success with another chart busting hit titled “Mi Querida Socia.” In 2002 Jenni earned a GRAMMY® nomination as Best Banda Album for her album “Se Las Voy A Dar A Otro”.
