Los Ángeles, 24 de noviembre de 2013 – Con Pitbull como el anfitrión de este año y superestrellas de la talla de Marc Anthony, Prince Royce, Daisy Fuentes, Naya Rivera, Zoe Saldaña, Christina Aguilera, participando como presentadores o cantando durante la premiación, los latinos estuvieron muy bien representados en esta emisión de los AMAs.
Uno de los momentos más emocionantes del show fue el tributo que Jennifer Lopez le rindió a la Reina de la Salsa, Celia Cruz, una de las artistas más populares del siglo XX. Con un extravagante y colorido vestuario, digno representante de la Guarachera de Cuba, Lopez ofreció un gran show acompañada de 30 bailarines y una extraordinaria coreografía interpretando un medley de varios clásicos de Celia: Quimbara, La Vida Es Un Carnaval y Bemba Colora.

Omer Pardillo Cid, ejecutor del testamento y del legado de Celia Cruz, comento “Estoy muy agradecido con Jennifer Lopez por el tributo tan espectacular que le rindió a Celia Cruz durante los American Music Awards. El gran poeta Cubano José Martí dijo ‘Honor a quien honor merece,’ y en este décimo aniversario de su muerte, que mejor manera de preservar su legado musical con las nuevas generaciones que con tributo como este realizado por una de las estrellas más grandes de la música de hoy.

Durante los “2013 American Music Awards” los artistas fueron reconocidos en las categorías Pop/Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop, Soul/R&B, Alternative Rock, Adult Contemporary, Latin, Contemporary Inspirational, Electronic Dance Music, al igual que en las categorías Top Soundtrack, New Artist of the Year presentado por Kohl’s, Artist of the Year y por primera vez, “Single of the Year.”

Con esta edición se marca el aniversario número 15 de la categoría “Favorite Artist – Latin” donde han sido reconocidos los artistas Latinos más destacados de las últimas décadas, incluyendo Julio Iglesias quien fue el primer artista Latino en recibir un AMA. Después de 15 años el impacto Latino se refleja aún más con artistas que tienen raíces hispanas como: Miguel, de padre Mexicano, nominado en la categoría ‘Favorite Male Artist – Soul/R&B’, Bruno Mars, de padre Puertorriqueño, está nominado en tres categorías y por supuesto los tres Latinos nominados como “Favorite Artist – Latin” Marc Anthony, Romeo Santos y Prince Royce.

Marc Anthony won Favorite Artist Latin, a category that was created l5 years ago.

One of the most exciting moments of the show was superstar Jennifer Lopez’s thrilling tribute to The Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz, the most popular salsa artist of the 20th Century. In wild and colorful costumes that would have pleased La Guarachera de Cuba, Lopez scorching performance including 30 dancers, wild choreography and Cruz’s signature songs, Quimbara, La Vida Es Un Carnaval, Bemba Colora .
