2016 Sesac Latina Music Icon Awards Intocable

Los Angeles, CA (June 16, 2016) – The SESAC Latina Music Awards 2016 celebrated the most successful year in its history last night at its annual gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel.  SESAC Latina, the most progressive rights organization in the music industry, and its composers and publishers this year had a record 17 hit #1 songs on various Billboard charts.

On hand to present the awards were Celeste Zendejas, Director of SESAC Latina, Eli Ponce, Associate Director of SESAC Latina, Trevor Gale, Senior Vice President of Writer / Publisher Relations SESAC, and Sam Kling, Senior Vice President of Creative Operations SESAC. 

Songwriter of the Year for third year in a row, is the renowned producer and Mexican composer Luciano Luna, who created the years biggest hits for Julión Álvarez, Banda El Recodo, Luis Coronel, Banda Los Recoditos, La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, La Séptima Banda, Noel Torres, La Original Banda Limón, and others.

In the category of Song of the Year, which is determined by the longevity of a song’s presence on the charts, the SESAC Latina Award went to “El Perdón”, recorded by Nicky Jam feat. Enrique Iglesias. Sony / ATV Sounds LLC was named Publisher of the Year.

For the first time in its history,  SESAC Latina presented a Producer of the Year award which was given to Saga WhiteBlack for his creative input in the production of “El Perdón”, a song that has become an urban phenomenon worldwide.

The event began with a greeting from Dennis Lord, Executive Vice President of SESAC, welcoming the guests. The evening began with awards given to authors of the songs with most radio play (Radio Performance Awards), with SESAC Latina affiliate Nicky Jam standing out for the second year for the sustained success of his compositions “Hasta El Amanecer” (12 weeks # 1 on Billboard) and “El Perdón” (30 weeks # 1 on Hot Latin Songs, # 1 in several other Billboard charts and Song of the Year at numerous events). 

Subsequently, Intocable, headed by its leader, vocalist and composer and member of SESAC Latina, Ricky Muñoz, performed a selection of its acclaimed greatest hits, plus the new single “Tu Ausencia” from the June 17th  album “Highway”.    

A high point of the evening was the awarding of the prestigious SESAC Latina Icon Award to INTOCABLE by SESAC executives and Leila Cobo, Director of Content and Programming for Latin Music and Entertainment for Billboard Magazine. In the remarks, INTOCABLE was declared an icon of Latin music due to the value and importance of their repertoire and the impressive achievements of their 20 year career which includes multiple Grammy Awards, Latin Grammy, Latin Billboard and Premio Lo Nuestro.

Among the other composers and artists attending were Intocable, Proyecto X, Calibre 50, Régulo Caro, Jorge Gaxiola of Voz de Mando, Luciano Luna, Saga Whiteblack, Fernando Corona, Edwin Luna y La Trakalosa de Monterrey, Julián Mercado, Mauricio Arriaga, Helen Ochoa, Jonatan Sánchez, Noel Torres, Adriel Favela, Christian Michelle Félix of Máximo Grado, Jorge Valenzuela and Joel Lizárraga of Banda El Recodo.

El más esperado y mayor evento musical de la temporada, con grandes estrellas presentes en la Noche de Gala de los SESAC Latina Music Awards 2016 ha sellado el año de máximo éxito de la organización de derechos de autor más progresiva de la industria, que se coronó con los reconocimientos otorgados a los compositores y editoras de un total de 17 canciones que lograron el #1 en diversas listas de popularidad de Billboard.

En el evento que se ha realizado nuevamente en el legendario Beverly Hills Hotel los galardones fueron presentados por Celeste Zendejas, Directora de SESAC Latina, Eli Ponce, Director Asociado de SESAC Latina, Trevor Gale, Senior Vice President of Writer/Publisher Relations de SESAC, y Sam Kling, Senior Vice President of Creative Operations de SESAC. 

Como Compositor del Año, por tercera vez consecutiva, el ganador ha sido el destacado productor y compositor mexicano Luciano Luna, cuyas creaciones, incluyendo varios #1, se han posicionado en los lugares más altos de las listas de Billboard en las grabaciones de artistas como Julión Alvarez, Banda El Recodo, Luis Coronel, Banda Los Recoditos, La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, La Séptima Banda, Noel Torres, La Original Banda Limón, y otros.  

En la categoría de Canción del Año, que se determina por la duración de su presencia en los charts, el Premio de SESAC Latina fue para “El Perdón”, grabada por Nicky Jam feat. Enrique Iglesias. Como Editora del Año fue nombrada Sony/ATV Sounds LLC. 

Y por primera vez en su historia, SESAC Latina otorga el premio Productor Del Año a Saga WhiteBlack, reconociendo su aporte creativo en la producción de “El Perdón” de Nicky Jam,  una canción que ha quedado marcada como todo un fenómeno urbano a nivel internacional.  

El evento se inició con un saludo de Dennis Lord, Executive Vice President of SESAC dando la bienvenida a las personalidades asistentes.  A continuación, después de la cena, se anunciaron los premios a los autores de las canciones más tocadas en radio (Radio Performance Awards), sobresaliendo por segundo año el nombre del artista afiliado de SESAC Latina Nicky Jam por el sostenido éxito de sus composiciones “Hasta El Amanecer” (12 semanas #1 en Billboard) y “El Perdón” (30 semanas #1 en Hot Latin Songs, #1 en varios otros charts de Billboard y Canción del Año en numerosos eventos). 

Posteriormente, se realizó la estelar presentación del grupo Intocable, encabezado por su líder, vocalista y compositor, el afiliado de SESAC Latina Ricky Muñoz, que —en vísperas del lanzamiento este 17 de junio de su nuevo álbum titulado “Highway”— ofreció una aplaudida selección de sus mayores éxitos, incluyendo el nuevo sencillo “Tu Ausencia”.   

En conjunción con su show y como gran sorpresa de la noche, Intocable recibió de manos ejecutivos de SESAC y de Leila Cobo, Directora de Contenido Latino de la revista Billboard, el prestigioso SESAC Latina Icon Award, declarándosele formalmente como ícono de la música latina por el valor y trascendencia de su repertorio y por los impresionantes logros de su trayectoria de más de 20 años, entre los cuales se incluyen múltiples Grammy, Latin Grammy, Latin Billboard y Premio Lo Nuestro.    

Culminando esta Noche de Gala se otorgaron los premios a la Editora del Año, Sony/ATV Sounds LLC, a la Canción del Año, “El Perdón” de Nicky Jam y a Luciano Luna, el Compositor SESAC Latina del Año.
