Scott Weiland Announces New Guitar Player For The Wildabouts

TOUR CONTINUES AS BAND MOURNS LOSS OF JEREMY BROWN

In a message to fans, Scott Weiland announced that Australian-born guitarist Nick Maybury would be joining his band the Wildabouts when they hit the road this week to play a host of solo and festival dates.   The band’s Jeremy Brown passed away unexpectedly last month; a day before Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts’ debut album Blaster was released on March 31.

“Jeremy had big shoes and no one can fill them,” said Weiland.  “Along with Tommy Black (rhythm guitar player in the band), he was my best friend and my collaborator.  But we have to soldier on.  Nick is an incredible player and is a great fit for the Wildabouts.”

Nick Maybury came to Los Angeles as a member of the Australian band Mink.  His first LA gig was with Perry Farrell, and he’s gone on to play on stage and in the studio with a wide variety of artists including Debbie Harry, Michelle Branch, The Madden Brothers, The Sayers Club, Alice Cooper, The Veronicas and Dave Navarro.

After Brown’s passing, the Wildabouts postponed a UK tour until September, but Weiland, “one of rock’s most dynamic front men” (Spin Mag), and his band will pick up their US tour as planned, playing the new album Blaster and tracks from Weiland’s repertoire.  Rolling Stone called their first single “…a foot-stomping boogie” and the Daily Beast wrote that “Blaster is poised to be an excellent addition to Weiland’s considerable catalog.” Alternative Nation raved that Blaster featured “the melodic highs that Weiland is famous for…. definitely holds up to Weiland’s prime work.”

“There’s no way I could possibly love music more than I already do. The Billboard Music Awards has been the epitome of celebrating some of the best of the best in music,” stated Smollett. “To be included as a performer on this year’s celebration is a huge honor.”

“I’m still living in a dream – the success of Empire and now getting the honor to perform at the Billboard Music Awards. It’s truly a blessing,” said Yazz.

“My hope is that ‘Conqueror’ will continue to inspire people as much as possible. It’s such a powerful message! I cannot wait to perform it at the Billboard Music Awards with Jussie!” said Estelle.

Fun performer facts include:

  • The Empire TV soundtrack — which features Smollett and Yazz on 12 of its 18 songs — debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. It’s the first TV series soundtrack to hit No. 1 in the history of the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Combined, all of the released songs from the TV series have sold 1.5 million downloads in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music.
  • Combined, Smollett’s songs have sold more than a million downloads, and he’s earned six hits on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart — all from the Empire TV series. Those include three top 40 hits: “Good Enough,” “You’re So Beautiful” (with Yazz) and “Conqueror,” with the latter song being his highest peaking (No. 15)
  •  “Conqueror” is Estelle’s lead single from her new album True Romance, out now. It was made into a special duet featuring Estelle and Smollett which aired when Estelle guest starred as “Delphine” on Empire. The song became a top 10 hit on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart, peaking at No. 8 on the list dated March 21 and helped spur The Empire TV soundtrack to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. The song was also a top five hit on both R&B Digital Songs (No. 3) and R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs (No. 4).
  • Yazz has claimed three hits on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, with two reaching the top 40: “You’re So Beautiful” and “Drip Drop.”

Smollett was on hand April 7th at the Twitter office in Santa Monica, to announce the finalists for the “2015 Billboard Music Awards” with this year’s host, Chrissy Teigen. Born in Santa Rosa, California, Smollett started acting at an early age, co-starring in features such as “The Mighty Ducks” and Rob Reiner’s “North,” and Alex Haley’s Emmy nominated miniseries “Queen,” starring Halle Berry and Danny Glover. Jussie went on to star with his five real life siblings in the ABC sitcom “On Our Own.” Continuing his acting career in shows like “The Mindy Project,” and “Revenge,” Smollett also became an accomplished musician and songwriter. He is currently recording his album, and Ebony Magazine has described him as “… an urban Adam Levine brewed in a cup of MJ.” Smollett can currently be seen as the talented son of Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard in the critically acclaimed new series by Lee Daniels, “Empire.”

Joining Jussie on the hit series “Empire” is Bryshere “Yazz” Gray, as his younger brother, Hakeem. Yazz The Greatest became a hip hop star at a young age, after a football injury sidelined him. Striving to be more versatile and uplifting, YTG chooses to be more responsible with his lyrics, elevating the content of his songs. His fans took to social media quickly to support the star. Some of his performance highlights include Jay-Z’s 2013 Made in America Festival, The Annual Roots Picnic Festival, and opening for Fabolous and 2 Chainz. YTG’s poise and confidence earned him the role of Hakeem on FOX’s “Empire” where he continues to create innovative and responsible music.

Estelle’s new album, True Romance, is out now via her own imprint Established 1980 Inc./BMG. Anchored by 4 themes – passion, courage, true romance and the BS – the album has garnered Estelle praise from the likes of New York Times, Rolling Stone, People, NPR All Things Considered, Elle, Oprah Magazine, Cosmo, InStyle and Entertainment Weekly. In addition to her music, Estelle also runs her foundation All of Me, which focuses on educating and expanding the horizons of young people through college scholarships and volunteer opportunities abroad. She also voices a lead character, Garnet, on Cartoon Network’s hit show Steven Universe. Estelle first burst onto the scene in 2008 with her double-platinum, international chart-topping hit song “American Boy” featuring Kanye West, which earned her a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.

Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital songs sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music. These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. iSHi Feat. Pusha T – Push It (iSHi vs Cazzette Remix) Out Today on iTunes

Collaborative remix unites iSHi’s hip-hop style with Cazzette’s club etiquette, out now on PRMD via iTunes!

29vh_iSHivsCazzette_1

Swedish hip-hop luminary iSHi has teamed up with label mates Cazzette for a full-throttled remix of debut PRMD single, ‘Push It.’

Stream: Soundcloud

Purchase: iTunes

Following the Swedish duo’s Hype Machine dominating bootleg of James Blake’s ‘Limit To Your Love,’ Cazzette prime the road to their next single ‘Together’ and forthcoming ICONS Music EP with yet another spotlight on their tendency to blur lines and disregard genre boundaries. Given a global premiere during the duo’s recent Main Stage set at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, the collaborative remix matches main room techno with an 808-twist, perfectly fusing both artist’s worlds for an adrenaline-fuelled club record from two essential cogs in the At Night Management roster.

Having streamed more than six million times on Spotify to date, ‘Push It’ marks the debut single for Stockholm-based producer iSHi. With previous production duties for Emeli Sande, Lupe Fiasco and Rihanna, his debut single came accompanied by an official remix from past collaborator and UK legend Tinie Tempah, garnering close attention from both the urban and electronic market.

With his dual mixtape/short-film Spring Pieces enroute and plans for a star-studded debut album before 2015 is out, the iSHi VS Cazzette remix shows hip-hop and house music working in impressive union under the PRMD banner.

Weiland dedicates today’s Blaster release to guitarist Jeremy Brown

Jeremy Brown

“I’d like to dedicate today’s release of our album, Blaster, to my friend and collaborator Jeremy Brown. It breaks my heart that you are not here to receive the recognition you so deserve and worked so hard for,” Scott Weiland

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Mar. 31, 2015 – Blaster, the debut album from Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, is available today: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/blaster/id957686568

Blaster was produced by Rick Parker [Black Rebel Motorcycle Club] and recorded throughout 2014 at Lavish Studios in Burbank and at The Sandbox in Beachwood Canyon. Blaster features twelve tracks, all but “20th Century Boy”, a T-Rex classic, were written by Weiland, the legendary 2x Grammy winning, multi-platinum selling songwriter/vocalist.

An additional recording, “Jean Genie,” is available as a single starting today: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-jean-genie-single/id980904794. In a review of the Wildabouts performance of the song at Sundance, Billboard reported, “…a sharp extended rendition of David Bowie’s “Jean Genie” that allowed guitarist Jeremy Brown to play with tones both volcanic and cavernous.”

Late yesterday, hours before they were to play a celebratory show in Hollywood, Weiland and the band learned of the passing of 34 year old Wildabouts lead guitarist, Jeremy Brown. Weiland wrote, “It is a terrible loss that goes beyond words.  He is one of my best friends, a truest friend and one of the most gifted guitar players that I’ve ever known.  A true genius.” This morning, Weiland dedicated the release of Blaster to his friend. “I’d like to dedicate today’s release of our album, Blaster, to my friend and collaborator Jeremy Brown.  It breaks my heart that you are not here to receive the recognition you so deserve and worked so hard for.”

Weiland met Jeremy in 2008, during the recording of Happy in Galoshes, and they have worked together ever since. During many of the interviews Weiland has conducted in the lead up to today’s release of Blaster, he credits Brown for coming up with many of the riffs on the new album. In reviews from the Wildabouts recent tour, many reporters singled out Brown for his playing.

MORE ON BLASTER:

“After Blaster concludes,” wrote Artist Direct, “one thing is clear, there’s literally nobody like Scott after all these years and there never will be.

“Weiland […] is obviously recharged.” – The Boston Globe

“Blaster is poised to be an excellent addition to Weiland’s considerable catalog.” – The Daily Beast

“The songs from the album Blaster are no-nonsense, straight-ahead rock tunes that owe debts to music of the 1980s and ’90s inspired by late ’60s garage rock.” Billboard

“A stunning new rock album.” – Illinois Entertainer

“The album has its own distinctive sound,” says Weiland, “but it also can entice those Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver fans who have stuck by me. Over the years, I’ve gone back and forth between art records and being in a band. This is a hybrid. What we’ve come up with is really heavy, slinky, and sexy. There’s a lot of fuzz. The best way to describe it is ‘Furry’.” I knew I wanted to make a rock record,” proclaims Weiland. “It all just came together.”

Scott Weiland has cumulatively sold over 44 million records worldwide with Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver. He’s garnered two Grammy Awards in the category of “Best Hard Rock Performance”—in 2005 for “Slither” and in 1994 for “Plush”. Stone Temple Pilots’ Purple debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 a feat also accomplished by Velvet Revolver’s Contraband. Weiland’s voice has driven some of the most recognizable hits in rock n’ roll history including “Sex Type Thing”, “Wicked Garden”, “Creep”, “Interstate Love Song”, “Vasoline,” “The Big Empty,” “Sour Girl,” “Down,” and more. He released his memoir Not Dead & Not for Sale in 2011 to critical applause. Still, his most powerful music is yet to come with the release of Blaster.
