Los Angeles, CA (October 30, 2017) – dick clark productions and ABC announced today that singer, songwriter and actress, Christina Aguilera, will pay tribute to Whitney Houston and music from the successful film turned pop culture phenomenon, “The Bodyguard,” at the “2017 American Music Awards.” The multi-talented songstress’ tribute, which will feature memorable tracks from The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album, comes on the eve of the 25thanniversary of the film, which was released on November 25, 1992 and starred one of Aguilera’s all-time favorite artists, the late Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston won 22 American Music Awards and was the most awarded female vocalist of all time, including winning 8 AMAs in a single year. A fan-favorite and true pop icon, Aguilera has treated fans to an array of American Music Awards performances throughout the years including her first AMA performance in 2000 with the hit singles “What a Girl Wants” and “I Turn to You,” her knockout medley of “Ain’t No Other Man,” “Beautiful,” “Dirrty,” “Genie in a Bottle” and “Keeps Gettin’ Better” in 2008, as well as her most recent performance of the moving piano ballad “Say Something” with A Great Big World in 2013. Actress Viola Davis will be on hand to introduce Aguilera for this unforgettable homage. The “2017 American Music Awards,” the world’s largest fan-voted awards show where music enthusiasts watch their favorite artists and pop culture icons come together to honor idols, newcomers and record-breakers in the contemporary music scene, will celebrate 45 years of music live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 8:00pm ET on ABC.
“Whitney herself stated in 2001 that Christina Aguilera sang the best version of her song ‘Run To You,’” said the Estate of Whitney E. Houston. “It is with great appreciation and honor that she is returning to participate on the American Music Awards for a special tribute honoring the 25th anniversary of ‘The Bodyguard.’ Whitney said that Christina is without a doubt one of the best voices she enjoyed in this generation of music. From the Estate of Whitney E. Houston, we thank you with great joy!”
“I am honored and humbled to be asked to participate in such a special tribute of a timeless soundtrack that has been a huge inspiration not only in my own personal life and career, but to countless aspiring singers – touching music lovers worldwide and influencing the history of music itself,” said Christina Aguilera. “To be honoring THE one and only, Whitney Houston, is a blessing and I am grateful to celebrate the spirit of her songs and legend that lives on. I feel eternally fortunate to have personally met her on and off the stage. My deep appreciation for her kindness to me while coming up in the business – her graciousness, generosity, humanity and beauty – lived up to everything I could have hoped for in meeting my idol and will forever be cherished in my memory of her.”
Originally released on November 17, 1992, The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album–co-executive produced by Whitney Houston and Clive Davis–was the first album verified by SoundScan to sell more than one million copies in a single week, won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, has sold more than 45 million copies worldwide (and is certified 17x Platinum in the US by the RIAA) and is the top-selling soundtrack album of all-time. “The Bodyguard” marked Whitney’s debut as a movie star while the soundtrack–driven in part by Whitney’s monumental interpretation of “I Will Always Love You”–became of one of the best-selling albums of any genre in history. Legacy Recordings (in cooperation with The Estate of Whitney E. Houston) is celebrating the 25th anniversary with the release of Whitney Houston – I Wish You Love: More From The Bodyguard on November 17, 2017 which includes never-before-released live recordings from Whitney’s historic The Bodyguard Tour (1993-1995); alternate versions of the audio recordings from the “The Bodyguard” film; an alternate version of a remix of “I’m Every Woman”; additional artwork and more.
Singer, songwriter, performer, producer, director and actress, Christina Aguilera, is one of the most accomplished performers of the last decade. She has sold more than 43 million albums worldwide, achieved four #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, three top five albums in the United States, and has won six Grammy Awards. She has collaborated with other legendary artists including Herbie Hancock, Andrea Bocelli, Tony Bennett, Elton John and The Rolling Stones.  Aguilera was also the only artist under 30 to make Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of 100 greatest singers of all time and was named one of Time Magazine’s Most Influential People in 2013. The New York native’s trajectory from performing in local talent shows in Pennsylvania, where she grew up, to getting her big break on “Star Search” in 1992 to landing a part on the Disney Channel’s “The New Mickey Mouse Club,” is well known. It was her song, “Reflection,” for Disney’s “Mulan,” that led to a record deal with RCA and the release of her self-titled debut album in the summer of 1999. The album quickly hit #1 on the strength of its first dance/pop single, “Genie In A Bottle” (which dominated the charts for five weeks and broke records worldwide) and other chart toppers including “What A Girl Wants” and “Come on Over.” She has gone on to win multiple awards including a Grammy Awards for Best New Artist, Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance to name a few. Among countless other honors, she is also the recipient of a 2001 Latin Grammy Award for Mi Reflejo (Best Female Pop Vocal Album), a 2000 Billboard Music Award for Female Artist of the Year, and two 2004 Rolling Stone Music Awards (Best Female Performer, Readers’ Pick; and Best Tour, Readers’ Pick, “Justified and Stripped”). In 2010 Christina added a new role to her list of accomplishments, the role of actress. She starred in her first feature film Burlesque, opposite Cher and Stanley Tucci which earned a Golden Globe Nomination for her Original Song, “Bound to You” which she co-wrote and performed. In 2011 Aguilera made her way to television showcasing her mentoring side as she coached young hopefuls in the effort to beat out her fellow coaches on the NBC series The Voice. The show was an immediate success breaking television ratings records and winning multiple Emmy Awards. In 2015, she made her way back to acting starring as Jade St. John in the ABC hit series “Nashville.” In addition, in 2017 she wrapped shooting “Zoe” starring Ewan McGregor and appeared as the voice of Akiko Glitter in the Summer Sony release, “The Emoji Movie.”
It was previously announced that music legend, Diana Ross, will take the stage at the “2017 American Music Awards” for a rare performance, where she will also be honored with the “American Music Award for Lifetime Achievement” in recognition of her remarkable career and her outstanding artistic contributions to the entertainment industry and popular culture.

Los Angeles, CA (October 26, 2017) – dick clark productions and ABC announced today that multi-platinum singer and actress, Selena Gomez, will perform her brand new single at the “2017 American Music Awards.” The influential and inspiring pop superstar, who continues to redefine her role as an artist, is a fan favorite at the American Music Awards having taken home the award for Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock in 2016, as well as providing show-stopping performances of her powerful track “Same Old Love” in 2015 and her passionate song “The Heart Wants What It Wants” in 2014.  A truly gifted singer, Gomez makes her return to the AMA stage with the world television premiere of her brand new single “Wolves.”  The “2017 American Music Awards,” the world’s largest fan-voted awards show where music enthusiasts watch their favorite artists and pop culture icons come together to honor idols, newcomers and record-breakers in the contemporary music scene, will celebrate 45 years of music live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 8:00pm ET on ABC.

Selena Gomez made her mark in entertainment by conquering film, music and television at an early age. On the big screen, she began making the transition from young actress to adulthood with such films as the much talked about Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers.” The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival to critical acclaim while Gomez’s performance was singled out as a “breakout.” She appeared in the Academy Award® nominated film “The Big Short” opposite Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling as well as “Fundamentals of Caring” alongside Paul Rudd. The later film premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and Gomez was named by Vulture.com as one of “The 20 Best Performances of Sundance 2016.” Other credits include: “Rudderless,” “Neighbors 2” and the James Franco directed “Indubious Battle.” She is currently filming the untitled Woody Allen feature opposite Timothée Chalamet, Elle Fanning and Jude Law. As a recording artist, Selena has sold over 50 million tracks worldwide. She recently released two new singles “Bad Liar” and “Fetish” which garnered enthusiastic reviews. Entertainment Weekly wrote Gomez is making “the most unexpected pop music of the year” while Rolling Stone proclaimed the first single as “smart and streamlined.” In 2015, Gomez released her critically acclaimed album “Revival.” The first three singles off the album “Good For You,” “Same Old Love” and “Hands to Myself” went to number one on the US Top 40 chart. Gomez joins an elite group and becomes only the sixth female artist to have at least three songs from one album reach the #1 position since the chart launched in 1992. Gomez has added executive producer to her impressive list of credits serving as an executive producer of the hit Netflix original series “13 Reasons Why.” Giving back has always been an important element in her life. She was named the youngest goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF at 18 years old and has worked tirelessly to support this organization ever since. Gomez has traveled to Ghana, Chile and Nepal as an advocate for some of the world’s most vulnerable children with UNICEF. Selena was honored for her continued support at Variety’s first ever Unite4: Humanity event with the Young Humanitarian Award alongside Bill Clinton. She has hosted “We Day” in Vancouver, Chicago and Los Angeles for We The Children, an organization that empowers young people to achieve their fullest potential as agents of change by being active local and global citizens.

Located on the Museum’s third floor, this one-of-a-kind exhibit will offer visitors an in-depth look at the iconic career of the two-time GRAMMY®-winning and 11-time Latin GRAMMY-winning Colombian singer/songwriter who pioneered the integration of the indigenous and vallenato sounds of his country into popular music. The exhibit opens three days following the Nov. 10 release of Vives’ latest album, Vives (To Live).

On display through November 2018, the exhibit will feature, among other items:

  • The outfit Vives wore for his first big telenovela appearance on “Escalona”
  • Vives’ first GRAMMY won for 2001 for Best Traditional Latin Album for Dejame Entrar
  • Vives’ 2015 Latin GRAMMY Award for Best Contemporary Tropical Album for El Rock De Mi Pueblo
  • Hand-painted props used in the music video for his award-winning collaboration with Shakira, “La Bicicleta”
  • Handwritten notes and lyrics used during the making of his 2013 Latin GRAMMY-winning album, Corazón Profundo

“It’s an absolute honor to be able to pay tribute to one of Latin music’s most influential artists, and the music of Colombia, through this new exhibit,” said Nwaka Onwusa, GRAMMY Museum Curator. “Carlos Vives helped shape the new Colombian and Latin American sound. We are thrilled to share his incredible story with our visitors.”

“Carlos Vives has had an enormous impact on music both in Colombia and here in the United States,” said Scott Goldman, GRAMMY Museum Executive Director. “While his work as a singer, composer, actor, and entrepreneur has touched millions, his commitment to music education as part of his Rio Grande music school continues to inspire future generations of music creators. We hope this exhibit will be just as inspiring.”

“Bulova is proud to work alongside the GRAMMY Museum to promote such an inspirational and educational exhibit featuring Carlos Vives, one of the most influential Latin artists of our time,” said Robert Christiano, EVP Marketing at Bulova.

“I feel very honored to be able to share the story of my musical history and its evolution throughout my 25-year artistic career,” said Vives. “Thank you to the GRAMMY Museum for this opportunity.”

On the night of the opening, Vives will visit the GRAMMY Museum to participate in its popular “An Evening With” public program series featuring an intimate performance and Q&A hosted by David Fricke, senior writer at Rolling Stone and the host of “The Writer’s Block” on SiriusXM Radio. Tickets to An Evening With Carlos Vives are $35 and can be purchased by GRAMMY Museum Members and American Express cardholders beginning Thursday, Oct. 26 at 10:30 a.m. PST. ABOUT CARLOS VIVES

Born in Santa Marta, the third largest city of Colombia’s Caribbean region, singer, composer, actor, entrepreneur and UNICEF ambassador Carlos Vives is one of the most important artists in Latin America, and one of the biggest and most influential artists in music. In his 25-year career, Vives has created a new form of music combining rock with the Vallenato and ancient sounds of Colombia, and in the process sold 20 million albums, earned 11 Latin GRAMMY Awards, and two GRAMMY Awards. His most recent Latin GRAMMYs came in 2016 for Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year for “La Bicicleta,” a collaboration with GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY winner Shakira. In addition, in 2014 Vives received Billboard’s Spirit of Hope Award for his humanitarian work, and the BMI President’s Award for his career achievements. In 2015, the city of Los Angeles declared Oct. 23 to be “Carlos Vives Day,” and in 2017 Vives received an Honorary Master’s Degree from the prestigious Berklee School of Music.

Vives has strong ties to the indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. He has made them central characters in his lyrics and music videos, has sung in their ancient language and has invited them to participate in his concerts. He has also spoken frequently about the great influence that the Afro-descendant culture has had on his music. He has worked to preserve, protect and promote these special and endangered communities and the environment in which they live.

Set for release on Nov. 10, his 18-track new album Vives features the worldwide smash hit “La Bicicleta” and his latest hit “Robarte Un Beso.” The album also includes a children’s song, “Monsieur Bigoté,” featuring the voices of Vives’ children, Elena and Pedro Vives, and the Rio Grande music school chorus. The album, which explores themes of love, peace, domestic abuse, and other important issues, also features special guests Thalía and up-and-coming artist Cynthia Montaño. The album name means “to live.” With the release of this album, Vives wanted to share that simple yet strong message to encourage people to live their lives to the fullest.

Grammy Award-winning band Kinky release new video filmed in India

Kinky’s new video for “Acento en la U” feat Mariel Mariel
OUT TODAY

After releasing two hits from their latest album “Nada Vale Mas Que Tú”, Kinky surprised us with the video of their third single, “Acento en la u”, featuring Mariel Mariel, which premiered on MTV on October 4.

Recorded in the streets of India, the video was produced by Marcela Recio for Artcore Films and directed by Rika Dávila.

Over 12 days the team toured the country and chose sites like Udaipur, New Delhi and Taj Mahal as locations for this video.

The Prince of Rajasthan opened the doors of his palace where we were able to film privately in some of the rooms with amazing history,” says Gil Cerezo, lead singer of the band.

In the video, you can see the luxurious parts of India, but also Delhi’s old market and even the atmosphere in the trucks that cross the streets, because it was them who gave a “ride” to the production team to get into the small communities living in the desert.

“Nada Vale Más Que Tu” is, undoubtedly, one of the most important records in the career of this regiomontana band. With more than 17 years of experience,  Kinky has performed all over the world, including Coachella, KCRW Fest, Bumbershoot, Austin City Limits, and 6 times in the prestigious Festival Vive Latino, among others. They have also appeared on David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, Craig Ferguson and the MTV VMAs, and toured with The Flaming Lips, Cake, Modest Mouse, De La Soul, Shakira, Los Lonely Boys, Beck, Norah Jones and Vasco Rossi.
