Carlos Vives World Premieres Highly Anticipated New Music Video “El Mar De Sus Ojos” on Mun2 & Telemundo

carlos_vivesThe U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) today named international Latin pop singer/song writer Carlos Vives as the Agency’s first Inclusion Ambassador. In this role, Vives will promote social and economic inclusion of Afro-Colombian and indigenous communities in Colombia, which is essential to overcome decades of conflict and move towards peace.

“The diversity of Colombia is part of our cultural richness that we need to recognize and value,” said Vives. “I am honored to be able to use music to highlight that our identity is tied to our racial and ethnic individuality in order to build a durable peace.”

Vives, a Grammy and multi-Latin Grammy winner, is partnering with USAID to increase awareness and understanding about diversity, minority rights, and cultural heritage throughout Colombia. These ethnic communities, representing nearly 15% of Colombia’s 45 million people, are among the most marginalized in the country and suffer from exploitation, poverty, violence, discrimination, displacement, and exclusion. Four out of ten Afro-Colombians or indigenous persons are victims of the armed conflict, more than 60% live below the poverty line, and, in urban areas, unemployment levels for Afro-Colombians are five percent higher than those of the non-ethnic population.

“For Colombia to move towards prosperity and peace, the well-being and rights of all Colombians must be taken into account, especially Afro-Colombian and indigenous groups who have been historically marginalized,” said USAID’s Associate Administrator Mark Feierstein. “Partnering with Carlos Vives is an incredible opportunity to celebrate Colombia’s diverse population, raise the profile of these vulnerable groups, and create a more inclusive foundation upon which peace can be built.”

Through this partnership, Vives will:
•    Highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion throughout Colombia during the upcoming Corazón Profundo tour in August 2014.
•    Mentor 5-10 Afro-Colombian and indigenous music groups.
•    Host a music showcase for Colombia’s Afro-Colombian Day on May 21 at his restaurant, Gaira Cafe Cumbia House, in Bogota.
•    Appear in a series of public events with Afro-Colombian and indigenous communities to promote their rights and raise awareness of opportunities to rise out of poverty.
“We all deserve to have the same access to the benefits of development because in today’s world, diversity means business and development opportunities,” Vives added.

The partnership builds on USAID’s decade-long effort to support Afro-Colombian and indigenous communities to promote their inclusion, rights, and economic opportunities.  Vives’s first single of his new album features ChoQuibTown, the acclaimed Afro-Colombian group.

Artist/composer/actor and empresario Carlos Vives world premieres his highly anticipated new music video for his #1 single, “El Mar De Sus Ojos” a collaboration with ChocQuibTown on April 3rd on Telemundo’s nationally broadcasted program, “Al Rojo Vivo” at 5pm EST.

The song which debuted #1 on the Latin Airplay chart is the first official single off his upcoming album, “Mas + Corazon Profundo” the musical continuation to his highly acclaimed album, “Corazon Profundo” which included the hits, “Volvi a Nacer”, “Como Le Gusta A Tu Cuerpo”, “Bailar Contigo”, and “La Foto De Los Dos” which earned the superstar multiple awards and recognitions including 3 Latin Grammys and a Grammy nomination.

Following the world premiere on Al Rojo Vivo, Telemundo will rebroadcast the video across the network’s top rated programs, Titulares y Mas, Acesso Total, Un Nuevo Dia, and Mun2 on Friday April 4th with special behind-the-scenes exclusives only seen on Telemundo.

The video, directed by Felipe Montoya, was filmed in the city of Bogota in various artistically symbolic locations throughout the city such as the world-famous dance school, “La Casona de la Danza”, and the “Teatro Faenza” a landmark of cultural rebirth of the Colombian capital. The video was made possible due to the support of IDARTES which has helped restore cultural landmarks throughout the city. Over 150 dancers are featured throughout the video, all stemming from an open audition of over 500 dancers ranging from children to adults.

For Vives, this is a song which unites the Caribbean with the Pacific Colombian culture. Composed alongside the legendary Hugo Huertas (H2) and produced by Andres Castro the song came about over 7 years ago when they first began exploring the sounds of “tropi-pop” and hip hop. The collaboration with ChocQuibTown was a perfect pairing in representing the Caribbean roots that Vives offers along with their pacific sounds giving the song a youthful vibe that transcends all generations.

El Mar De Sus Ojos which continues to top the charts in both the US and Colombia will also have it’s online video premiere on VEVO in the coming weeks.

The special editorial award will be given to an innovative artist who has achieved a notable chart milestone over the past year. The six finalists for the 2014 Milestone Award presented by Chevrolet were announced today on Billboard.com – they are: Imagine Dragons, John Legend, Luke Bryan, OneRepublic, Ellie Goulding and Carrie Underwood.

On May 13, Epic Records, in conjunction with the Estate of Michael Jackson, will release XSCAPE, an album of new music by the internationally beloved music icon and King of Pop, Michael Jackson.  The project features eight new tracks, which the world will be hearing for the very first time on the new album.  For the ultimate fan experience, XSCAPE will also be available in a Deluxe Edition, which includes all of the sourced Michael Jackson recordings in their original form. The XSCAPE standard and Deluxe Edition’s are available for pre-order beginning April 1 on iTunes.com/MichaelJackson and elsewhere, and available at all retailers worldwide on May 13.

XSCAPE is executive produced by Epic Records Chairman and CEO L.A. Reid, who, after an initial mining of Jackson’s archives by the Estate, was granted unlimited access to the treasures representing four decades of material on which Jackson had completed his vocals.

Reid curated the final list of recordings to deliver to the producers, who retooled the production to add a fresh, contemporary sound that retains Jackson’s essence and integrity.  It’s a process Reid calls “contemporizing.” The album’s lead producer, Timbaland was one of a handful of producers Reid believed had the gravitas, depth and range to creatively engage with Jackson’s work. Additional producers include global hitmakers Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Jerome “Jroc” Harmon and John McClain.

“Modern music and artistry would look and sound completely different if not for the groundbreaking contributions Michael Jackson gifted to the world,” remarked L.A. The title of this album honors Michael’s album naming process.  He always chose a song from the album to name his projects and, beginning with THRILLER, used only one word titles, each with an edgy quality to them.   This is true of the new project. Written by Michael Jackson and Jerkins, and produced by Jackson and Jerkins, “Xscape” has further significance in that it is the one track on the album that was ‘contemporized’ by the producer who recorded it originally in the studio with Michael.

Santana, wyclef, Avicii & Alexandre Pires selected for official anthem of the 2014 Fifa World Cup

FIFA and Sony Music Entertainment announce today that the Official Anthem of the 2014 FIFA World CupTM in Brazil is entitled “Dar um Jeito (We Will Find A Way),” and features a global superstar line-up including music legend Carlos Santana, Wyclef, Avicii and Alexandre Pires. The Anthem will be released late April and was produced by 2-time Grammy-nominated Ash Pournouri (PRMD Music), Carl Falk, Rami Yacoub and Wyclef Jean and recorded at PRMD Studios in Stockholm. “Dar um Jeito (We Will Find A Way)” will be performed at the 2014 FIFA World CupTM Closing Ceremony on July 13 at the legendary Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Earlier this year, FIFA and Sony Music Entertainment announced that “We Are One (Ole Ola),” by global superstar Pitbull, featuring global superstar Jennifer Lopez and Brazilian artist Claudia Leitte, was selected as the Official Song of the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil. The song will be performed by Pitbull, together with Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte, at the FIFA World Cup™ Opening Ceremony on June 12 at the Arena de Sao Paulo.

“Dar um Jeito (We Will Find A Way)” is the brainchild of Arnon Woolfson and Pournouri who began work on the track with Wyclef, Yacoub and Falk earlier this year. Pournouri says, “In Portuguese Dar Um Jeito means to find a way around obstacles and impossibilities. With this track, we wanted to send a message of optimism and opportunity with the music and the words.”

Once the track idea was created, Santana, Pires and Avicii each added their own sound to the recording. Surprise Nashville Performance at Sony Music Nashville’s Annual Boat Show Set the Stage for the Great Music to Come

Four-time Grammy winning band the Doobie Brothers with Michael McDonald are teaming up with country’s biggest stars including Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Zac Brown Band, Sara Evans, Chris Young, Jerrod Niemann, Love and Theft, and more to be announced for an album of all-new recordings of the Doobie Brothers’ biggest hits. Releasing later this year on Sony Music Nashville, the album was announced during last week’s Country Radio Seminar at Sony Music Nashville’s annual, invitation-only show aboard the General Jackson Showboat, which treated radio, media, and industry VIPs to a surprise performance by the Doobie Brothers collaborating with album stars Paisley, Evans, and Young.

The album has come together organically over the last few months with artists picking their favorite Doobie songs and recording them with the Doobies. Many of the artists have performed Doobie Brothers songs live in concert, and Sony Music Nashville label head Gary Overton’s first live concert was a Doobie Brothers show in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1972.

Overton shares, “Seeing the Doobie Brothers perform all those years ago was such a thrill for me. I loved their sound, and the enduring appeal and influence of the Doobies runs deep. Artists have been telling me how excited they are to be a part of this project, and that alone speaks volumes about the amazing heritage of music that the Doobie Brothers have created.”

The years have witnessed many changes in the Doobies, but the band’s most recent studio lineup harkens back to their earliest days. Simmons and Johnston continue to front the group. And multi-instrumentalist John McFee’s history with the Brothers dates back to 1978, after his stint with Southern Pacific. Michael McDonald returns to the Doobie Brothers for this project.

Carlos Vives Doma Al Monstruo DE VINA DEL MAR

carlos_vivesEl consagrado artista del pop tropical, Carlos Vives, regresó triunfante la noche del miércoles al escenario del Festival Internacional de Viña del Mar. Luego de más de 14 años de ausencia en prestigioso escenario, Vives domó al “Monstruo” del Festival el cuál le otorgó Antorchas y Gaviotas de Plata y Oro.

El público de la Quinta Vergara lo recibió con euforia, gritos, aplausos, en el cual Vives respondió lleno de entusiasmo y palabras de elogio hacia su público.

“Como le gusta tu cuerpo” uno de sus más recientes éxitos, sirvió de marco para iniciar su gran espectáculo. El colombiano estuvo cerca de dos horas en el escenario donde interpretó sus éxitos más recientes así como sus antiguos éxitos, con los que se abrió paso en el mundo entero. “Déjame Entrar”, “Carito”, “Bailar Contigo”, “Fruta fresca”, “Voy a olvidarme de mi”, continuaron llenando de euforia y energía a La Quinta Vergara.

Uno de los momentos más memorables fue la interpretación de Vives de “Volví a nacer” sin duda uno ,de los temas que más gritos levantó en la velada. Y fue con esa canción que un jóven del público (Pablo) le pidió la mano a su pareja, Vicky, en medio de la algarabía.

Otra gran sorpresa, Paloma San Basilio, quien ubicada desde el palco en primera fila, se acercó al escenario para cantar un par de líneas de “La gota fría” con él.

Pero los gritos del público que pedía “gaviota, gaviota” hizo de las suyas para entregarle una Gaviota de Plata y luego una Gaviota de Oro, distinción mayor del Festival.

“Estoy muy contento, estamos conectados emocionalmente con Chile. Faltaba en mi vida un reconocimiento así. Estamos tragados de este monstruo”, dijo Vives en la conferencia de prensa posterior a su presentación. Y así, quedó grabada otra historia en la página del Festival Viña del Mar.

La semana que viene, el samario vivirá otro gran momento. El lunes 3 de marzo lanzará “El mar de sus ojos” junto al grupo y representante del pacîfico colombiano Chocquibtown, éste primer sencillo de su próximo álbum “Más Corazón Profundo” saldrá a la venta en abril. En mayo comenzará la gira “Corazón profundo tour” en Colombia.
