PEPE AGUILAR, CA SECRETARY OF STATE ALEX PADILLA, VOTO LATINO, ANGELA AGUILAR ANNOUNCE LATINO VOTER REGISTRATION INITIATIVE
JARIPEO SIN FRONTERAS TOUR TO HOST VOTO LATINO’S VOTER REGISTRATION TABLES AT SELECTED ARENAS

Pepe Aguilar, Angela Aguilar, California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, and Voto Latino’s COO Jessica Reeves announced today that Aguilar will be launching a voter registration drive on his 2018 Jaripeo sin Fronteras Tour in conjunction with Voto Latino’s SOMOS MAS initiative which aims to register 1 million new voters by 2020. The Aguilar’s, Padilla, and Reeves held a press conference this a.m. in Los Angeles to make the announcement and to discuss how vital it is for Latinos to participate in the election process.
Aguilar will record promotional videos and messages for Voto Latino which will play during his concerts and be serviced to national and local media. He has invited Voto Latino and its teams of local volunteers to set up registration tables in the lobbies of selected arenas on his tour, engage with fans, register them to vote and generally educate them on the voter registration process in their state.
Voto Latino:
During a discussion at the press conference, Aguilar said, “Latinos are in the crosshairs of the current administration as hard-working families are separated and children are traumatized and our culture is attacked. It is imperative that we join the political process and it is important to me to help,” said Aguilar.
Padilla, who recently launched http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/high-school-programs/ which encourages teens to vote said, “By exposing youth to civic engagement at a young age we are creating lifelong engaged citizens. To be effective, we need programs like the partnership between Voto Latino and Pepe Aguilar that are innovating when, where and how we register Californians to vote. Having voter registration at concerts is an easy way to reach tens of thousands of voters and supplements the work my office does statewide to increase voter registration and particpation.”
And Reeves pointed out “We know that young Latinos are the gatekeepers of their community and the future of this country. They do and will continue to shape our national politics, but to do that most effectively they must be actively involved to change policy. This is why Pepe Aguilar’s help in bringing our message directly to his fans is so significant.”
Angela Aguilar, “I am glad I live in California where there is an opportunity for young people to pre-register to vote when they turn 16 so I can be ready to rock the vote when I’m 18. I really appreciate the Secretary of State making it easier rather than harder to be a part of the voting process.”
